About us

Who are we?

Kaibosh is New Zealand’s first and Wellington’s only dedicated food rescue organisation (Charities Commission number: CC38367). Robyn and George Langlands started Kaibosh in 2008 by rescuing food one night a week and storing it in their home fridge, before taking it to a drop-in centre the next day. We’ve worked our way up to a community office, four employees, and more than 60 fabulous volunteers.

What do we do?

We collaborate with food retailers to rescue surplus food that’s good enough to eat, but not good enough to sell, from being discarded into landfills. This food is redistributed to charities that work with individuals and families who are struggling to make ends meet. We’ve successfully redistributed over 31,000 kilograms of food to people in need by working with food retailers across Wellington.

Our vision

Zero food poverty. Zero food waste.

Our mission

To be the link between food producers and those that support people in need.

Our values

Kaibosh encourages staff, volunteers, and trustees to be: courageous, compassionate, smart, genuine, and independent.
