About Us
The majority of commercial food waste ends up in landfills. We maintain that most retailers would rather their surplus food was used in a more constructive manner. Unfortunately, many retailers can only dispose of food outside of normal business hours which prevents charities from utilising these donations.
Kaibosh aims to fill the gap between retailers who want to donate surplus food and the charities who need this food. We collect food from retailers, sort, weigh and store the food overnight, and then donate it to charities the next day. We comply with food safety best practices throughout this process.
Your liability will not be affected as long as any food you give to Kaibosh meets health and safety standards at the time of donation. The New Zealand Food Safety Authority provides some useful guidelines about donating food to charities.
As a specialist food rescue organisation, Kaibosh frees up charities to focus their resources on their core purposes rather than on food collection. And because we work with multiple retailers, we can supply charities with a greater variety and quantity of food.
By donating rather than discarding their food surplus, retailers can have a positive impact on the lives of disadvantaged people, decrease their costs, and lessen their impact on the environment.
Redistributing food that is good enough to eat, but not good enough to sell, reduces the strain on landfills and provides a sustainable solution for managing food surplus.
No, Kaibosh aims to bridge the gap between retailers who want to donate surplus food and charities. We are careful not to encroach on, or disrupt, any direct relationships that already exist between charities and retailers.
