Goodbye 2017, Hello 2018

Kaibosh started 2017 slightly ‘adrift’ following the Quake of November 2016 which saw us lose our long term base in Tennyson St.

For several months (Nov ’16 – February ’17) our City volunteer programme was put on hold and we were forced to operate a reduced service from a temporary location, hosted by our friends at the Wellington City Mission.

Rebuilding Kaibosh- February 2017.

This saw a big reduction in our operating capacity with both food volumes and food quality negatively affected. Especially troubling was our inability to service the many Wellington charities to the level that they required and had become accustomed. We were able to see the importance of Kaibosh’s service to Wellington Community Groups directly via the need that resulted in our inability to service them adequately during that time.

Our City base was fortunately able to secure a one year lease on a new property in February 2017, which we managed to rapidly convert into an operating food rescue service after several weeks of hard work cleaning, painting and reconstructing our facility in the new warehouse. Our volunteer programme recommenced in mid-March and we have since seen a continuation of growth back to and beyond the levels that we were experiencing before the Quake.

Our post-quake journey hasn’t finished yet. Our current City base is only temporary & early 2018 will see us needing to re-establish ourselves elsewhere when our temporary lease runs out.

We are currently organizing our next steps and are confident that our next home will be a long-term base for Kaibosh in the City.

This move will come at significant cost to Kaibosh so if you are able to financially support us, please make a donation using the button below. More then ever, we need your assistance to ensure that Kaibosh can continue our work redirecting quality surplus food to those who need it most!

Donate to Kaibosh this Christmas!
