Mahi aroha at Kaibosh

Volunteers are at the heart of our work. In just a couple of hours a week you can make a real difference, helping to reduce food poverty and food waste in our communities.

Over 250 dedicated volunteers help Kaibosh Food Rescue at our three sites in Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington), Te Awa Kairangi (Hutt Valley) and Kāpiti- Horowhenua. Our service for the community couldn’t work without volunteers, and we’re grateful to have so many wonderful people involved!

Most volunteer opportunities at Kaibosh are weekdays during working hours, 9-3pm. Our Wellington site also has weekend volunteer opportunities. Read on to find out more and how to apply.

Thank you for your interest in supporting Kaibosh. We are developing this part of our volunteer programme in our region and will launch more offerings later in 2026.

Volunteer Roles

Thank you for your interest in getting involved to help Kaibosh and help your community. We have a range of individual volunteer roles for regular volunteering across our three sites. Read more.

Volunteering roles at Kaibosh are rostered once a week or once every fortnight.

Regular volunteering roles and rostered shifts include warehouse operations support, food rescue driver support, market rescue support, kitchen support, food sorting, second harvest produce sorting and sparkle squad cleaning support. Read more about specific roles and approximate timings across each of our three bases.

Note, all roles require a good level of fitness, standing for several hours and lifting boxes of up to 15kgs.

Applying to Volunteer

Please consider making a commitment of at least 6 months volunteering with us, due to the time spent on your induction and training.

There is a two-step application process using online software called Volaby for our volunteer programme. When your application has been received, our Volunteer Programme Team will be in touch to discuss your application and our vacancies.

How to apply

Onboarding at Kaibosh

Following our on-boarding and health and safety induction, all volunteers are expected to be able to support our mahi unsupervised and work collaboratively with staff and volunteers in small to medium-sized teams.

We work with you to find a volunteer vacancy and role matching your interests and availability.

If we don’t have a suitable vacancy, you might like to consider joining our backup/cover team.
