Our vision

Zero Food Poverty, Zero Food Waste.

Our mission

To be the link between the food industry and those that support people in need.

Commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi

Kaibosh actively works to honour Te Tiriti o Waitangi and strives to achieve an equitable Aotearoa New Zealand. We are guided by our commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and our relationships with tangata whenua, in everything we do.

What we do

Kaibosh is Aotearoa’s first dedicated food rescue charity operating in Te Whanganui-a-Tara / Wellington, Te Awa Kairangi / Hutt Valley, Kāpiti and Horowhenua.

By linking the food industry with community groups that support people in need we ensure that quality surplus food reaches those who are struggling rather than being needlessly discarded. This benefits both our community and our environment.

Kaibosh has three branches in Wellington City, Lower Hutt and Paraparaumu. With the help of a dedicated team of more than 220 volunteers, we rescue and sort food seven days a week. We redistribute up to 65,000kg of quality surplus food each month to charities and community groups that support people in need. This is the equivalent to 153,613 meals worth of good kai distributed for people in our local communities (based on 450g standard meal metric) while preventing 183,184 kg CO2e in greenhouse gas emissions.

Kaibosh provides our service to the community at no cost to both food donors and the charities and community groups we supply.

How you can help

Would you like to support our work?

  • Donate funds – people are hungry in our communities, but you can do something about it – donate to Kaibosh and make sure no one goes without.
  • Volunteer – in just a couple of hours a week at Kaibosh makes a real difference, helping to reduce food poverty and food waste.
  • Give food – if you are a food business you can help those in need by donating surplus food, which will reduce your costs and your impact on the environment.
